Larry Raymond Engle, 86, of Ankeny, IA passed away on March 2, 2021 from his earthly home into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ.

A visitation, with family present, will be held at Ankeny Memorial Funeral Home (4208 North Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny, IA) on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.,  followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m., and burial at Ankeny Memorial Gardens. Memorial gifts may be made in Larry’s name to Faith Baptist Bible College, 1900 NW 4th St., Ankeny, IA 50023.

Larry was born on February 28, 1935 to Raymond Frank and Esther Iowa (Logue) Engle at home on a farm south of Cumberland, IA. He enjoyed sharing that he was a gentleman and allowed his twin sister, Leann, to come first. He liked to recollect how his boyhood home had no electricity or running water for his early years. He never viewed that as a hardship, but he was especially thankful for how God provided a lovely “mansion” for him in his retirement years. One can only imagine how he is enjoying his heavenly mansion now.

He graduated from Cumberland High School, Omaha Baptist Bible Institute, and John Brown University. For several years, he was in insurance claims, until he was called to be the pastor at Galilee Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids, IA from 1973 to 1984. He then returned to working in  insurance claims until his retirement nearly two decades ago.

Larry accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of nineteen. Throughout his life, he enjoyed studying the Bible and making teaching handouts for his Sunday School classes. He joyously and faithfully shared his faith to others and had a strong desire for all to know Jesus Christ as their Savior.

He is survived by Gerrie, his wife for over 56 years, and his twin sister, Leann Burkquist. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bruce Engle, and a sister, Joyce Riggs.
