Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday August 29, 2021 at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 30, 2021, also at the funeral home with burial immediately following at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

Leona’s story starts on November 19, 1927, the youngest child of Rudolph and Rosalie Skalka. She was born on a farm north of Deweese, NE. She married Donald J Suedmeier December 27, 1952 and had their hands full with nine children.

Leona was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and a kind neighbor and friend. She was a positive influence in many people’s lives. She enjoyed painting, gardening, quilting, and baking kolaches or apple strudel. She and Donald loved sharing their musical talent by playing the organ, guitar and singing in many churches and nursing homes. She was a servant of God and a great example for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by eight children, Diana (Chuck) Marshall of Naples, FL, Mary (Steve) Walter of Old Saybrook, CT, Theresa Jones of Norfolk, NE, Michael (Janet) Suedmeier of Colleyville, TX, Rita (Doug) Girth of Frontenac, KS, Nancy (Jim) Dahl of Dorchester, IA, Tom (Carmen) Suedmeier of Essex, CT, and Jim (Amy) Suedmeier of Ankeny, IA; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald J Suedmeier; son, Joseph D Suedmeier; parents; and brother.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Leona. The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice staff in Naples, FL for their compassionate care.
