Lloyd James Haberkorn, 90, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away peacefully, March 6, 2024.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Memorial Services of Iowa, 4208 N. Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny, Iowa. A graveside service and burial will be held immediately following visitation at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

Lloyd was born April 21, 1933, in Osage, Iowa, to Charles and Freda Haberkorn. He attended Floyd High School in Floyd, Iowa, and graduated from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. Lloyd served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed a 30-year career with Principal Financial Group.

Lloyd was a quiet, reserved man but that didn’t mean he didn’t have something to say. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee with his newspaper each morning, an occasional beer with family and friends and casual conversation on the back deck. Although he may not have contributed much to the conversation, he took pleasure in sitting back and listening to YOUR story.

Lloyd enjoyed working in his garden and tinkering in his garage, but he most cherished watching his favorite sports teams, the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs, on television beside his wife of 45 years, Jan. It was so exciting that he had the opportunity to see the Cubs win the 2016 World Series!

Family was very important to him, and you could see the joy on his face and hear the excitement in his voice when his children and grandchildren came to visit. His presence in their lives is something that they all appreciated and will greatly miss.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Janice; his daughters, Becky (Mark) Hensley and Shelley Haberkorn; daughter-in-law, Terri Howard; brother, Dean Haberkorn; grandchildren, Jason (Tara) Copley, Lindsey (JJ) Burris, Hanna (Jordan Mix) Howard, Annie Howard, Jack Howard and Greer Howard; and seven great-grandchildren.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Freda Haberkorn; sister, Betty Anderson; brothers, Clayton Haberkorn and Robert Haberkorn; and sons, Bradley Haberkorn, Mitchell Howard, and Marty Howard.
