Louise Shirley (Parker) Treangen, 87, passed away February 11, 2016, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Louise previously lived in Ankeny.

A Funeral Mass will be held on the Friday of Mother’s Day Weekend, May 6, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church in Ankeny.
A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the Mass, also at the church.

Born Dec. 31, 1928, to Lela and Harry Parker, Louise grew up in La Crosse, Wisconsin, with her two older sisters, Rachel and Mary. Louise first saw her future husband, Don Treangen, at an ice skating rink when she was 13. They met again after Don had returned from WWII and saw Louise at a dance hall, asking her “don’t I know you from someplace?” and Louise responding with, “why yes you do, Donald.” The two fell in love and, in 1950, were married in Hollywood, California, on the “Bride & Groom” national radio show. They lived in La Crosse for 14 years before moving to Ankeny in 1965, later opening up their grocery store in Des Moines, Don’s SuperValu. Louise was a busy homemaker with four children (Julie, Lynn, Paul, and John), active in Welcome Wagon and Bridge Club. She also taught sewing at DMACC and was an accomplished seamstress. Louise began working at Heartland Education in 1979, from where she later retired. For many years her summers were highlighted with her work at the Iowa State Fair — Louise loved The Fair! Don and Louise celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2000 and they were happily married until Don’s passing in 2009.

Louise is survived by her children: Julie (Dave) Silver, Lynn Treangen (Denny Carlson), Paul Treangen (Monica), John Treangen (Canice); 11 Grand-Children, and 5 Great-Grand Children.

Louise’s family is deeply appreciative of the staff of the Marshalltown Iowa Veterans Home for all of the loving care that they provided to both Louise and Don! Donations received in memory of Louise will go towards recognition of this staff.
