Margaret Ann Thornton, 82, of Ankeny entered eternal rest September 6, 2017.
A visitation will be held 5 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12th at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N Ankeny Blvd), with a prayer service to follow at 7:00. Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wed. Sept. 13th at the Scranton Cemetery.
Margaret was born June 7, 1935 in Greene County, Iowa to Charles and Susan Holden. She graduated from Scranton High School in 1953, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in education from Mt. St. Scholastica, in Atchison, Kansas.
Margaret was united in marriage on June 15, 1957 to Marvin Thornton, at Saint Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in Scranton, Iowa. To this union, two daughters were born; Mary Kay Dimick, and Melanie Sue Byrd. Margaret loved her family and was a loving, kind, caring wife, mother, and grandmother. Her grandchildren are; Charlie Marie Byrd, Jennifer (Nick) Roespch, Douglas (Emily) Dimick, and Ashley (Zach) Moran; her great-grandchildren are Elle and Ethan Roespch, Nora and Owen Dimick, and Hope Moran.
Margaret’s passion in life was teaching. She taught elementary education for over 35 years, 28 of those years were at Saydel.
She was fun loving, an avid Hawkeye fan, enjoyed visits to the casino, and her annual family trips to Okoboji.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Susie Holden; her husband Marvin; a sister Bernice (Tom) Cheslak; and a grandson Justin Dimick.
