Marilyn Gay Davis

July 14, 1938 - February 22, 2016

Marilyn Gay Davis, 77, of Des Moines passed away February 22, 2016 at Mercy Hospital.
Marilyn was born at home in Des Moines Iowa on July 14, 1938 to Ocie and Esta Overton. She was raised in Des Moines and graduated from East High School in 1956. When she was 23 (1962) she met her husband of 53 years at the Kings Host Restaurant on Ingersoll. They married in 1964. Marilyn and Harrison (‘Skip’) gave birth to a little boy in 1971.
She started her career right out of High School with the former Bankers Life Insurance Company (Now Principal Financial Group) and after 45 years, she retired as a medical secretary for the Life Insurance underwriting department. After her retirement she spent several winters with Harrison (“Skip”) visiting family in Texas. She also enjoyed visiting her son Matthew and his family in Minneapolis and even witnessed Liam’s first steps.
Marilyn enjoyed collecting Angels and Precious Moments figurines and weekly Bible studies with friends from Grace Church. She always loved watching Carol Burnette, Jackie Gleason, Old Western Movies, and Major Leaque Baseball. When she was younger she always wore Evening in Paris perfume and sang along with Pat Boone.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Harrison; a son Matthew (Ines); three step daughters, Laureen Kranovich, Shahnaz Davis and Tara Davis. She has two grandchildren Liam and Lucas of Matt and Ines Davis and three step grandchildren, George and Jakob of Laureen Kranovich and Harrison of Shahnaz Davis. And finally she has one step-great grandchild Landen of Jacob Kranovich.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ocie and Esta Mae Overton, one sister Ardeth Hines; two brothers Donald and Marvin Overton; and one grandchild Landen of Matt and Ines Davis who was 27 days old at the time of his passing.
She leaves behind a family of loved ones and friends who will always remember her as a kind, generous, and remarkable human being. She will be missed.
