Mark David Williams, 72, gently passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021, surrounded by his family.  He was born on February 15, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Jack and Rosemary Williams.

Growing up, Mark was embraced and loved across the Ankeny community, riding his “bus” to visit his friends all over town.  He was an honorary “assistant” at the Catholic Church, softball diamond, high school gymnasium, swimming pool, bowling alley, fire station, police station, gas station and anywhere he could talk with and help out his buddies.  In 1984, Mark moved to Peachtree City, Georgia where he lived with his parents and then sisters, Martha McKinnon and Amy Cheek and her family.  For the last ten years, Mark resided at Beverly Farm in Godfrey, Illinois, a community that supports developmentally disabled adults with compassionate and loving care.

Despite his disability, Mark worked throughout his life.  While in Ankeny, he worked many years at the Best Western Inn.  In Georgia, Mark worked at Kroger earning a pension upon his “retirement”.  While at Beverly Farm, he provided support at the Senior Care Center for other disabled adults.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents.  Survivors include his sisters, Martha (Mike) McKinnon and Amy (Rob) Cheek; brother, Brad (Anne) Williams; aunts, Margaret Ann Benson and Rosetta Pfaff; as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation, Mass of Christian Burial, and lunch will be held at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church, 510 East 1st Street, Ankeny, IA on Monday, March 29th, 2021.  Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am, and Mass at 11 am with a lunch reception to follow.  The family respectfully requests that all in attendance wear masks and practice social distancing.  For those wishing to attend virtually, please follow this link: www.olih.org/mass.  Mark will be interred in a private burial service next to his parents in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Those who wish to remember Mark in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Beverly Farm Foundation, 6301 Humbert Road, Godfrey, IL 62035, 618-466-0367.
