Mark Duane Radke, 64, of Ankeny, Iowa left us peacefully and went to Heaven on May 21, 2023, after a short battle with lung cancer.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Veterans Reception Center, 910 Main Street, Van Meter, IA, on June 29, 2023, at 1:00 pm.  Following the Celebration of Life there will be a luncheon with family and friends. A private family burial with military honors will be held on Friday, June 30 at 9:30 am at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, IA.

Mark was born May 31, 1958, in Des Moines, Iowa to Bill Radke and Jeanette Radke Hoke. He graduated from Van Meter High School in 1976.  Mark enlisted in the United States Army and served his country proudly with the 5th Special Forces Group from 1978 to 1981, rising to the rank of Sergeant. Following this time, he served in the Iowa National Guard for a couple of years while also helping his Dad work the family farms. In 1984, Mark was hired by the United States Postal Service where he worked until his retirement on January 29, 2021.

Mark married Jolene Kint, the love of his life, on June 11, 1988.  They were blessed with two children, Jordyn and Kyle.  Mark was an avid water and snow skier, 49er’s fan, and loved working on the family farm.  When Mark wasn’t working hard, he loved watching his kids with their many activities and always encouraged them to “take care of business”.  His happy place was on a snowy mountain or on his boat with family and friends. Mark adored his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Mark is survived by his wife, Jolene; daughter, Jordyn (fiancée Kelly Waddell); son, Kyle; mother, Jeanette Hoke; stepfather, Gary Hoke; sisters, Diane (Dean) Zegland, Sherry (Bryan) Herold, and Linda Jefferies; stepbrothers, James (Theresa) Hoke and Robert Hoke; his mother-in-law, Ruby Kint; sisters-in-law, Judy Frazier and Janie (Ron) Samuels; and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Radke; his father-in-law, Garold Kint; brother-in-law, John Jefferies; brother-in-law, Ronald Frazier; and nephew, Allen Samuels.

His passion, deep voice, and belly laugh will be greatly missed.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Mercy Hospital and the Kavanaugh House for their exceptional care for Mark. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or EveryStep Foundation, 3000 Easton Blvd., Des Moines, IA 50317 (www.everystep.org/donate).
