Martin “Marty” Puhr, 67, of Ankeny passed away May 14, 2016 at his home, surrounded by family.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday May 21, 2016, at Memorial Services of Iowa Chapel (4208 North Ankeny Blvd). A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service.
Marty was born June 3, 1948 in Hackensack, MN. After graduating from high school, he joined the US Marine Corp, and served during the Vietnam era as a Corporal, E-4 Forward Radio Operator.
After returning home, he married Bonita Anderson, March 21, 1970, and together they raised 2 daughters, Lori and Julia.
In June of 1981, Marty took a job with Aspen Equipment Company in Minnesota. In January of 1982, he transferred within the company to the Ankeny, Iowa branch, where he was the manager until his retirement in September, 2011.
He enjoyed fishing, riding the 4-wheelers with grandchildren at their Minnesota cabin, playing slot machines, spending time with his friends and family, working on his cabin in Missouri and drinking beer with family and friends!
Marty is survived by his wife, Bonita; daughters, Lori (Chris) Puhr-Griffith, and Julia Puhr-Marvel; grandchildren, James Puhr, Lacey Marvel and Keegan Griffith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gail and Duane Kempney, Marilyn Anderson, Eugene Anderson, David and Cheryl Anderson, August and Marsha Riedel, Phyllis Renneberg, Chris and Veronica Lynch, and Debra Puhr; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ferne Puhr; brothers, Richard and Mark Puhr; Sister, Lucille Wright Taylor; Brothers-in-law, Douglas Wright, Bill Taylor, and Jeff Renneberg; Mother and Father-in-law, Mervin and Dorothy Anderson; and former son-in-law, Eric Marvel.
