Melvin Edwin Cunningham, 62, of Norwalk, entered into Heaven’s Gates, Saturday, June 4, 2022.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Monday, June 13, 2022, at New Hope Assembly (4425 70th St. Urbandale). A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, 2022, also at the church. Burial will follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd).

Melvin was born May 19, 1960, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Ernest Leroy Cunningham Sr., and Betty June Briggs and grew up in the Des Moines area. He shared many fond memories of his life growing up on a farm.

Melvin married Rachel L. Lawson on July 25, 1981. They had three children together and later adopted their niece.

He worked for Quick Creek, formally known as Forterra & Cretex for 43 years.

Melvin touched so many lives by the way he lived and showed the love he had for Christ through his giving heart to all he met. He loved to sing and enjoyed being in the church choir. He loved to listen to worship music and sit in the presence of God. He loved looking at classic cars and tinkering in the garage. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He could find joy in everything. He could make you laugh even on your worst day. He loved being together with his kids and playing with his grandkids.

Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Rachel of Norwalk; daughters, Diana (Dan) Kent of Cedar Rapids, Traci Cunningham of Springville, and Katie Hook of Des Moines; son, Michael Cunningham of Coalinga, CA; and 12 grandchildren, Elijah, Levi, Mitchell, Michael, Libby, Ayden, Aubree, Matthew, Evianna, Landon, Lincoln and Wyatt. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Larry, Donny and Johnny.

As a show of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made directly to the family.
