Michael Dake, 48, of Ankeny, passed on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa. A visitation will be Friday, April 21, 2017, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with memorial service following at 8:30 p.m. at Memorial Services of Iowa, 4208 N Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny, IA.

Mike was born February 22, 1969 in Independence Iowa to Larry and Anne (Lynch) Dake. He graduated from Vinton High School in 1987 and obtained his bachelor’s degree from University of South Dakota. He was a long time car salesman for Dave Ostrem Imports, European Motor Cars, and Stew Hansen Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram.

Mike grew up in Vinton, Iowa where he was the third child after his sisters Teresa and Lori, then younger brother Jeff. Mike was a hard worker starting early with a paper route in 3rd grade. He was a good student and grew up swimming and diving competitively for the Vinton High School. Summers were spent life guarding at the Vinton pool and hanging out with friends.

Mike received a scholarship for swimming to The University of South Dakota in Vinton. His freshman year he became a pledge at the fraternity Sigma Nu. It was here that he became part of a family of brothers that taught loyalty and the value of true friendship. Between swimming, school and Sigma Nu, Mike was a very busy, well-rounded person who made friends wherever he went. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science, with his major being Health Science Administration and an emphasis in Business.

Mike moved to Des Moines, Iowa where he began an incredibly successful career selling luxury cars with Dave Ostrem Imports. He also worked for European Motorcars and Stew Hansen. He had two children Tanner Dean and Keely Rae and a beautiful dog named Porsche (of course celebrating his love of cars). About 10 years later Mike had another son Garrison, who now lives in Minnesota.

Mike loved the water, beaches and being outside. He was a huge fan of the Cowboys, Cubs and U of I. A lot of time was spent watching sports, yelling and whistling passionately at the TV. Mike moved to Ankeny during his battle with cancer, where he loved spending time with Tanner and Keely. They watched movies and had many lunches and dinners together and he just enjoyed being a great dad to his kids.

Mike was a people person, outgoing and friendly to everyone he came in contact with. He would walk into a room and leave knowing everyone there and remembered literally everything about everyone. He was a truly caring person and if you were Mike’s friend or loved one he was unconditionally there for you.

We will all remember Mike for the love, laughs and incredible times he gave us!

He is survived by his grandmother; Delores Lynch of Independence, IA; father and mother Larry and Anne of Vinton, IA; son Tanner and daughter Keely of Ankeny, IA, and son Garrison of MN; brother Jeff of Atkins, IA, sisters Lori (Thess) Harris of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Teresa Lazenby of Van Horne, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents; Clem Lynch, and Harold and Erma Dake; and brother in law Bill Lazenby.
