Michael Joseph Schaffer, 83 of Ankeny passed away March 17, 2023.

Mike was born September 18, 1939, in Des Moines, IA to George and Dorothy (Smith) Schaffer.
He attended St John’s Catholic School and Parish, Dowling High School, (Class of 1957) and Drake University.
Mike was united in marriage to Judy Brick February 13, 1960. They lived in Des Moines before moving to Ankeny in 1966.
Mike and Judy have 3 children: Joanne, Annette, and Joe.
As the parts manager at Dewey Ford, for 55 years Mike won many awards for his service.
He enjoyed all types of car races and shows and the chance to show others his ’97 Ford Cobra Mustang.
Family, friends and visitors to the neighborhood would more often than not see him working in the yard.
Mike was so proud of all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved supporting them at all their activities.
Mike was an active member of the Ankeny Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, Knights of Columbus at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church, and The Dowling Club. He was a fan of Miami Dolphins, Notre Dame and depending on which grandchild was in his presence, he cheered for Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones.
He looked forward to monthly luncheons with the Dowling Class of ’57 and the occasional card game at the Vittoria Lodge.
Mike is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judy; daughters, Joanne Webb (Larry), and Annette Delaney (Scott); son, Joe Schaffer (Heather); grandchildren, Abbie Martin, Ashley Stamey (Evan), Lindsey Corbin (Nick), Alex Delaney (Megan), Sam Schaffer, Addie Schaffer, Krista Webb, and Justin Webb; great-grandchildren, Ryne, Emmett, Eliana, Jack, Opal, Nola, Brycen, Ford and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy Schaffer; sisters, Theresa (Bob) Swift, Georgine (Byron) Welter, Phyllis (Ray) Sexton, and Nancy Getz; and son-in-law, Jim Wood Jr.
