Carrol “Gus” Edwin Schwaderer, 87, of Ankeny passed away August 18, 2015 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 22, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elkhart, Iowa. A visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 Friday August 21, also at the church.
Gus was born December 18, 1927 near Guthrie Center, Iowa. He graduated from Guthrie Center High School, and then served his country with the US Air Force.
Following his service, he enrolled at Iowa State University where he earned a degree in accounting. He continued his education at Drake University where he earned a Master’s degree.
He was married to Vivian Tierney in 1950, and they resided in Guthrie Center. They moved to Ankeny in 1960 where they raised their 2 children.
Gus worked a variety of accounting and IT management positions until his retirement in 1988.
He enjoyed nature, Iowa State sports, various crafts, cooking and regular family get-togethers.
Gus is survived by his 2 children, Celeste (Keith) Muehlenthaler, and Curtis (Tammi) Schwaderer; 6 grandchildren, Kevin (Christine), Kristen, and Kyle Muehlenthaler, and Tommy, Michael, and Andrew Schwaderer; and 1 great-granddaughter, Amelia Muehlenthaler.
He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian, a brother Carl, and a sister Lela.
Memorials may be directed to O.L.I.H. foundation or Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
