Stan Lassegard, 83, was born in Mitchell, South Dakota to Thomas and Minnie Lassegard. After two years of army service, Stan graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1958. He worked as Branch Manager of the Ames office of the Social Security Admin. for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He served on the Alzheimer’s Chapter Executive Board. For many years, Stan served as the Service Committee Chairman of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He organized and served as Chairman of the Medicare Counseling and Education Program and was a counselor for the SHIIP Program at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Stan frequently volunteered at the Hospitality Shop for many years and was named the Mary Greeley Medical Center Auxiliary Volunteer of the Year in 1997. He was an active member of the North Park Villa Board of Directors and Association President for nine years. For 18 years, Stan and his wife, Ruth, taught dancing in the Ames area and he entertained senior groups as a vocalist for several years. A favorite pastime of Stan’s was charcoal sketching and calligraphy. He had an avid interest in collecting information on family history and genealogy. Family get-togethers, especially interactions with his grandchildren, brought him great joy throughout the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and one brother. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Lassegard; one son, Stan W. Lassegard of Omaha, NE; two daughters, Teresa Tenney of Inola, OK and Renee Grabill of Ames,IA; one brother, LloydLassegard of Rock Island, IL; one sister, Gladys Olson of Salinas, CA; eleven grandchildren and their spouses, and 18 great-grandchildren.
Stan will be cremated and private graveside services are pending. Memorials to the Mary Greeley Israel Family Hospice House or The Alzheimer’s Association.
