Nancie was born July 26, 1960 in Des Moines, Iowa to George and Beverly Myers, the sixth of eight children. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Randy Dorrell; children, Mindy (Brandon) Gehrke, Katie Dorrell, and Drew Dorrell (Sasha Mecham); granddaughters, Quinn and Nola Gehrke; father, George Myers; siblings, Terry O’Leary, Judi (Dean) Martens, Steve (Brenda) Myers, Mary Lou Myers, Mike (Rishelle) Myers, and Eddie (Nancy) Myers; mother-in-law, Ruth Dorrell; brother-in-law, Doug Niblo; sisters-in-law, Rae Lynn Dorrell, and Ragina (Craig) Rothamel; as well as many nieces and nephews.  Nancie is reunited in heaven with her mother, Beverly Myers; and sister, Kathy Niblo.

Nancie married Randy in 1980 after dating through high school.  Their relationship was a driving force in the lives of all that knew them.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and nana.  Family was most important to Nancie and she loved spending time with her siblings, kids, and most especially her granddaughters. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, running, paddle boarding, and all things Caribbean island. She will be remembered for love of family, care for her students, hosting, her sugar cookies, and hair braiding.

The adage; “Teaching is a Work of Heart,” was never truer than with Nancie. After working for years with the Winterset School system she went back to school herself to obtain her Teaching Degree in Special Education all the while undergoing breast cancer treatments. She enjoyed working for Windsor Elementary teaching for 18 years until her glioblastoma prevented her from continuing. Her bond with her students will always be remembered.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed Suncrest Hospice at www.suncrestcare.com or Dr Deming’s above and beyond cancer at www.aboveandbeyondcancer.org.

Nancie’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the amazing staff at Suncrest Home Health and Hospice.  Their loving caregivers allowed us to be with her in home until the end and all will be cherished forever.
