Nancy Jo Waugh

February 13, 1944 - July 25, 2016

Nancy Jo Waugh, 72, passed away Monday, July 25, 2016 at Arbor Springs in West Des Moines, of complications related to Alzheimer’s disease.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 29, 2016 at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N Ankeny Blvd). A visitation will be held 6 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 28, also at the funeral home.
Nancy was born February 13, 1944. She graduated from Ankeny High School in 1961 as class valedictorian. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Iowa in 1965.
She worked as a Medical Technologist at the University of Iowa Hospitals, a private laboratory in Lawton, Oklahoma, St. Mary’s hospital in Manhattan, KS, and finally working for several years at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
She married Richard W. Waugh September 10, 1966, and they made their home in Ankeny until Nancy moved to Arbor Springs in 2005.
Nancy was devoted to her family, the University of Iowa, and the Hawkeyes. She enjoyed her bridge club and traveling, especially to Spain, Mexico, and South America. She was an active and loyal member of Heart of the Hawkeye Council of Campfire for many years and believed deeply in child mentoring and development.
Nancy is survived by her husband Richard; children, Rebecca (James) Snyder and John (Abbi) Waugh, and a very special granddaughter, Eleanor Hart Waugh, born July 9, 2016; and a brother Robert C. Hart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ruth Hart.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Central Iowa.
