Lancy Louise Herselius, 67, of Ankeny, passed away September 6, 2017 after a battle with ALS.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 11, 2017 at Ankeny First United Methodist Church (206 S.W. Walnut). A visitation will be held 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 10th, at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N Ankeny Blvd).

Nancy was born December 22,1949 in Des Moines, the daughter of Darrell Albert and Mabel Louise Roberts Steenhoek. Nancy was raised on a farm near Prairie City, and graduated from Prairie City High School in 1968. Following high school Nancy attended DMACC where she earned a certificate in Dental Assisting, and where she later earned a two-year Management Degree. On August 15, 1969, she married Bob Herselius in Prairie City.

Nancy was a member of the Ankeny First United Methodist Church, where she was active in committees and groups. She worked at the Iowa State Capitol as a tour guide for ten years, as an association event planner for 23 years, as school board secretary/treasurer for the Bondurant-Farrar Community Schools for 10 years, and as a dental assistant for 11 years. She also worked as a life skills coach for First Tee Program in Central Iowa, and as part of the Catch Crew for the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Nancy was an avid golfer, and loved to read, do needlework, garden, and spend time with her family.

Survivors include her husband Bob Herselius of Ankeny; two daughters, Kerry Fall and husband Jon of Bondurant, and Amy Galeazzi and husband Scott of Mahtomedi, MN; six grandchildren, Jess and Haley Fall, and Lauren, Brandon, Megan, and Kaitlyn Galeazzi; four sisters, Marcia (Keith) DeVries of Monroe, Diana (Reg) Hughell of Batavia, Karen Steenhoek of Toledo, IL, and Robbie Wademan (Jeff Petsch) of Hastings, NE; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Darrell and Louise Steenhoek, and her husband’s parents Bob and Rosa Ann Herselius.

Memorial donations may be left for the Ankeny First United Methodist Church or the ALS Association of Iowa
