Norma Jean Justice, 85, of Ankeny passed away February 18, 2018.
Funeral services will be held 10:30a.m., Friday, February 23, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church (1100 S.E. Sharon Dr, Ankeny) with burial to follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral also at the church.
Norma was born the daughter of Emil and Zena Mundt Stegeman in Manilla, Iowa, on March 12, 1932. She was baptized in Christ on May 8, 1932 and was confirmed in April of 1946 at the Evangelical Lutheran church in Manilla. Norma attended grade school and high school in Manilla. She graduated in 1950. Her formal education continued at Iowa State Teachers’ College, where she received a teaching certificate. In 1952, Norma was united in marriage to Howard L. Justice. Their marriage was blessed with three children—Vicki, Steve, and Craig.
Norma was employed at the Indianola Court House prior to having children. She spent most of her years as a homemaker, until 1973 when she began a 22-year career at the Des Moines Area Community College Bookstore, retiring in 1995. During the early years of marriage, the family moved many times because of Howard’s coaching career in high school and college football. She enjoyed being a part of all of his sports experiences. In 1972, Norma and family moved to Ankeny. They joined St. Paul Lutheran Church. Norma was a member of the Ladies’ Guild, helped with mid-week school, was on Altar Guild, and served on various other committees. Norma and Howard spent many winters touring the South in their RV. They also spent some winters in Arizona. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were a very important part of her life.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Howard; daughter, Vicki (Greg) Peterson of Parker, CO; son Steve (Christine) of Boston, MA, and son Craig (Melody) of West Des Moines; granddaughter, Melosina (Jordan) Latva of Harrison, UT, grandson Grant (Lindsay) Peterson of Phoenix, AZ, grandson Ryan (Trisha) of Austin, TX, and her grandson, Andy of Des Moines; and six great-grandchildren.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, a nephew, a niece, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ankeny. The family would like to thank all friends and the church family at St. Paul Lutheran church for the blessing you have been to Norma and Howard throughout their years with you.
