Rachel Myers

April 18, 1937 - October 22, 2023

Rachel Louise Myers, 86, passed away on October 22, 2023, in Ankeny, IA. She was born on April 18, 1937, in Des Moines.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2023, at All Saints Catholic Church (650 NE 52^nd Ave, Des Moines). The Rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m. followed by visitation from 10:30-11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery.

 

Rachel worked in Food Service at Mercy Hospital for 30 years and enjoyed cooking and baking for others. Her dinner rolls and apple pie always received rave reviews at holiday feasts. Rachel also was an avid bargain hunter and notorious for negotiating the best deal.  Dancing and playing the slots were other activities Rachel enjoyed and she was almost always accompanied by her companion of 19 years, Howard Freihage.  She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.

 

Rachel is survived by her daughters, Janice Kessler (Warren) and Susan Matheny (Mike); her sister, Betty Frideres (Gene); along with 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, a great great grandson; and multiple nieces and nephews.

 

Rachel was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Lewis Myers; her son, Raymond Myers; her parents, Joseph and Sylvia Spagnolo; her siblings, Joe, John, Tom, and Maggie.
