Raymond Eugene Yori, 87, passed away February 22, 2017.
A funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 28, at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church in Ankeny. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. at the church Monday with a celebration of life following.
Ray was born July 31, 1929 in Carney, Iowa. He attended Oralabor School where he met the love of his life and wife of 66 years, Margaret (Podnar), in second grade, and graduated from Woodside High School in 1946.
Ray served 21 months in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, including 12 months in Korea. Upon his return from the service he earned an accounting degree. In a career that spanned over 60 years, he worked at Towers Transfer & Storage, Polk County Building Department and Community State Bank.
He was an active member and Past Commander of the Boline-Manfredi VFW Post 9662, volunteered for St. Vincent de Paul, Knights of Columbus and served as Crocker Township clerk for 30 years until 2016.
Ray is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children, Janice (Lynn) Edmondson, Karen (John Pittenger) Yori, Mary Yori, Ray (Lee Ann Maldonado) Yori, and Connie Yori; three grandchildren, Amy Knoll, Casey Yori, and Lukas Helms; two great-grandchildren, Sam Knoll and Jake Knoll; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and many extended family members.
Memorial contributions may be directed to: Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church; Boline-Manfredi VFW Post 9662; St. Vincent de Paul; or Knights of Columbus.
