Richard Alan DeReus, 42, of Ankeny, IA, passed away October 21, 2022.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2022, also at the funeral home. Richard was born February 4, 1980, in Oskaloosa, IA, to Greg and Louise (Collister) DeReus. He graduated high school in Oskaloosa in 1998, then went on to DMACC and received an Associate Degree in robotic engineering. While he was in college he worked at Ankeny Hardware and continued to work there while he also worked on automatic car washes. He married Misty Busick in August of 2009. He enjoyed working at Ankeny Hardware and managed it for 12 years before becoming the owner in January of 2014. He was voted Ankeny Chamber of Commerce’s Businessman of the Year in 2016.

In his free time, Richard was a competitive bowler, enjoyed playing video games (World of Warcraft), watching movies (Harry Potter and Star Wars), collecting sports cards and Pokemon cards, collecting foreign or historical currency, watching sports, and doing Lego projects with the kids.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Misty DeReus; children, Agnes “Aggy” DeReus and Nickolas “Nick” DeReus; father, Gregory DeReus (Stacy Mitchell); stepfather, Rockney Englehoven; brother, Jason DeReus; sisters, Jerica DeReus, Samantha Doll (Caleb), Macayla Kurth (Dillon), and Kirah Young; grandmother, Wilda Collister; grandfather, Terry DeReus; and many other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Louise Englehoven; great-grandmother, Blanche Moore; grandmother, Judy Baker; and grandfather, Carl Collister.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in loving memory of Richard.
