Richard “Dick” Howe passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). A private interment will be held at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

He was born on May 3, 1938, to Earl and Leona (Carter) Howe. He graduated from Albia High School in 1956. After high school, Dick joined the Army and served time in Fairbanks, Alaska for two years.

Dick married Joyce Mahin, the love of his life, on June 19, 1960. Together they raised three daughters, Cindy, Kim, and Tammy in Ankeny, IA.

Dick was employed by Hy-Vee, Inc. In 1967, he opened the original Ankeny Hy-Vee as the Store Director. He retired in 1993.

Dick and Joyce had a long retirement and enjoyed spending winters in Arizona as well as traveling to Las Vegas and went on several cruises. Dick was an avid coin collector, a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, enjoyed watching sports, and a lover of new cars.

Surviving Dick are his wife of 62 years, Joyce; daughters, Cindy (Mike) Maly, Kim (Chris) Couchman, and Tammy (Kevin) Blackburn; grandchildren, James Thielman, Nathan Thielman, Brady (Desiree) Couchman, Katelyn Couchman, Justin Blackburn, and Tyler Blackburn; great grandchildren, Parker Thielman and Julian Couchman; brother, Dean Howe; and niece, Brenda (Michael) Wickman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Welcome Home Soldier Monument, 404 N. 10th St., Albia, IA 52531, or Sheepgate/Teen Challenge of the Midlands, 900 N. League Rd., Colfax, IA 50054.
