Richard L. Dickerson, 79, of Ankeny passed away February 20, 2017 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
A visitation will be held 4 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Memorial Services of Iowa chapel (4208 N Ankeny Blvd). A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 27 at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church.
Richard was born in Des Moines to Fred and Mary (Bennett) Dickerson. He graduated from Dowling High School in 1955.
He married Lois Schaper September 15, 1962, and together they had two children, Jon and Ann.
Richard served 8 years with the US Navy reserves; was a proud member of IBEW Local 347 for over 55 years; and a member of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church.
He loved any time spent with his family and grandchildren. He was an avid reader and loved spending winters in Arizona.
Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois; 2 children Jon and Ann (John) Marsh; 3 grandchildren Brynn and Holland Marsh, and Jon Dickerson; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Eugene; Sister-in-law, Carolyn Olsen; brothers-in-law Kenneth Schaper, Eugene Olsen and Jerry Winters; mother and father-in-law, Myra and Arno Schaper.
