Robert J. Trusty, 79, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.

Robert was born August 22, 1941 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from St. Edmond Catholic School in Fort Dodge, Iowa and attended college at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. He received his Master’s of Education at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Robert (Bob) dedicated 55 years of his teaching career to Dowling Catholic High School. He began his career as a math teacher in 1963 at the old Dowling High School in Des Moines. Bob was Dowling High School’s first swim coach and he also coached track. Robert also taught computer programming classes.  He continued to work with technology, eventually becoming the Network Administrator for the school. Robert worked part time at Dowling in the 2017-2018 school year and completely retired the summer of 2018.

Robert is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mary Trusty; and siblings, Thomas Trusty, LuAnn Huber, Francis Trusty and infant sister, Rosemary Trusty.

Robert’s family would like to extend thanks and praise to the staff at Home Care Assistance, Life Journeys, the Critical Care Unit (CCU) at UnityPoint Methodist Hospital, and Taylor House Hospice for the exceptional care and comfort provided to Robert during his illness.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dowling Catholic High School or St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.
