Ronald Machir, 80, of Des Moines passed away January 25, 2017.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N Ankeny Blvd). A visitation will be held 5 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 27th, also at the funeral home.
Ron was born September 19, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa to Morton and Diela Machir. At an early age he went to work as a carpenter, and became a journeyman carpenter in May of 1959. In 1958, he met and married Ona Hartman. They made their home in a house that Ron built in 1961, and raised their 5 children there. He and Ona both lived their lives to their final days in the same home.
Ron was a carpenter his entire working career and was a member of Local 106. He was an avid racing fan, enjoyed working around the house, camping, and watching his grandchildren’s various activities.
He survived by his; children, Ronald (Deb) Machir, Penny (Danny) Hawxby, Pam (Randy) West, Paula (Mark) Ruths, and Patty (Kris) Robinson; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters-in law, Arvella Machir, Linda Wright, Skip Hamburg, Nancy Brown, and Debbie Carr; and many friends, nieces and nephews.
Ron is preceded in death by his loving wife Ona, his parents, 2 brothers, a sister, and many beloved family members
