Ronald “Ron” Dean Walker, 82, of Ankeny passed away Friday, January 29, 2016, surrounded by loved ones.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 5, 2016, at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N Ankeny Blvd). A visitation will be held 5 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 4th, also at the funeral home. At Ron’s request everyone should dress casual for the visitation.
Ron was born August 31, 1933, in Ida Grove, Iowa. He was married to Janice Kasner on August 31, 1957 and they lived in Moville, Iowa until moving to Ankeny, Iowa in 1969. Ron worked 43 years as a drill rig operator for the United States Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Ron loved watching and attending sporting events and especially, Iowa State Cyclone football, where he regularly cheered and enjoyed tailgate parties for over 35 years. He enjoyed gardening, canning and fishing. He was an avid collector of John Deere tractors and other toys.
He is survived by his wife Janice of Ankeny, Iowa; children Debra (Joel) Twardokus of Princeton, WI; Darcy (Tim) Fitzgerald of Chariton, Iowa; and Rusty Walker of Ankeny, Iowa; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Randy “Walk”; his parents, George “Lew” and Rosalie Walker, his brothers, Loren and Larry Walker; and his sister-in-law, Karen Walker.
In lieu of flowers memorials should be directed to The American Heart Association.
