Sally was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on November 25, 1953, the middle of 3 children born to Marshall and Lois Hines. Her mother married her second husband, Ralph Hill, in 1967. Ralph embraced Sally and her brothers as his own and Sally loved and adored him. As a child she was fond of Girl Scouts and developed her vibrant imagination through reading in her treehouse and playing with dolls. Sally loved visiting her grandparents in Wolfe City, TX and creating memorable experiences with her cousins. From an early age she knew she wanted to be a nurse and earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse after attending Tarrant County Junior College in 1974. After raising her children, she was so proud to go back to college and obtain her Registered Nursing Degree from Des Moines Area Community College at the age of 53. She also loved volunteering as a Court Appointed Child Advocate.
Sally was an eternal mother who raised and nurtured more than just her three biological children: a mother-figure, friend, and teacher to so many people. She was known for her sharp wit, compassion for those in need, and love of all nature’s flora and fauna. Sally was proud of homeschooling her three children and found joy in the simple things, from her houseplants and quilts, to holding a sleeping baby. Sally delighted in her grandchildren, entertaining, cooking, sewing, reading, and collecting antiques.
She is survived by her children; Michael (Amanda), Adam (David Baker), and Hailey; her grandchildren Juliette (daughter of Annie Novak Clough), Kegan, Jayden, Henry, and Lenora; her brothers, Alan Hines (Tommy Sperling), Russell (Susan) Hines, and many beloved cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph & Lois Hill and Marshall Hines.
In lieu of flowers, Sally asks that donations be made to the “Sally Hines Novak Foundation” via https://charitysmith.org/sally-hines-novak-foundation/.
