Sarah Magnani, 85, of Ankeny died of pancreatic cancer on March 23, 2016.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00, on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, also at the church.
Sarah was born on December 23, 1930 in Madrid, Iowa to Pete and Sunta (Giannasi) Brugioni. She graduated from Ankeny High School in 1949 as Valedictorian and Homecoming Queen.
She married Bill Magnani on October 14, 1950, and they made their home in Ankeny where they raised their six children.
She was a charter member of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 42, and a charter member of Vittoria Italiana Lodge Auxiliary.
Sarah enjoyed reading, working on crossword puzzles, embroidering, going on trips to Arizona, making cookies and ice cream sandwiches, and going to Club ’49.
Her favorite saying was “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get.”
Sarah is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bill; children, Kathy (Bob) Lickteig, Jeff (Kim) Magnani, Chris (Roger) Sledge, Tom Magnani (Rodney Maxfield), and Susan (Jason) Battani; 11 grandchildren, Melissa (Brad) Criswell, Justin Magnani, Jamie (Brandon) DuBois, Amy (Ryan) Wickum, Jill (Mark) Lomp, Aaron (Jorden) Sledge, Casey Sledge, Dalton Magnani, Jessica Battani, Emily Battani, and Kyle Battani; 7 great-grandchildren, Joel Criswell, Robbie Criswell, Madilyn Sledge, Cyril Lomp, Olivia Sledge, Abigail DuBois, and Grace Lomp; 2 sisters, Dolores Gibbons, and Louise (Bob) Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Brian Magnani, and 2 sisters, Nira Magnani and Clara Lee DeFino.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Foundation or to St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic School.
