Sharon L Douglas

June 18, 1936 - October 17, 2021

Sharon was lost from our lives at 85 years old, on Sunday, October 17, 2021. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny). A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, IA.

She was the first child born to Lee and Virginia Bradbury, on 6/18/36, and was a wonderful older sister to Penni. She lived in Des Moines most of her life, and Ankeny in later years.

Sharon attended DM Technical High School, graduating in 1954. She married her high school sweetheart, Jim Douglas on 3/12/55. The two then very successfully raised three sons, Jim, Rick, and Mike. Sharon enjoyed careers with the Des Moines Public Schools, Dr Caudill’s Pediatric Allergy Clinic, Dr Woodburn’s ENT Clinic, and the On With Life rehab facility, before retiring to enjoy family and traveling in later life. Jim and Sharon had many great vacation trips to Colorado, Arizona, New York, California Washington, Oregon, North Carolina, Florida, any other locations along the way. In addition to travel, the family and their friends spent many wonderful years at their property near Rathbun Lake, in southern IA. Sharon thoroughly loved every opportunity to see her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren (and they, her). She also enjoyed the unique experience of regular gatherings with her “Club.” A group of a dozen or so girlfriends from high school continued to meet nearly monthly for the last 67 years, to visit, play games, and who knows what else!

Sharon is survived by her husband, Jim; children, Jim (Deb) Douglas, Rick (Deb) Douglas, and Mike (Cindy) Douglas; grandchildren, Justin (Leah) Douglas, Courtney (John) Puls, Eric (Monique) Douglas, Ryan (Deborah) Douglas, CJ Culligan, Garrett Culligan, Lindsey (Wes) Rohweder, Brittany (Dan) Richards, and Alyssa (Mark Deters) Douglas; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Vienna, Jackson, Kiley, Brayden, Maya, Sawyer, Cooper, Barrett, and Lincoln; sibling, Penni (Gary) Warren; stepmother-in-law, Doris Jean Douglas; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Sharon is predeceased by parents, Lee and Virginia Bradbury; in-laws, Marion and Esther Douglas; and daughter-in-law, Liz Douglas.

Our wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, and friend will be dearly loved and missed.
