Sharon Pauline Bailey Thompson, age 83, was called to her heavenly home on February 15, 2024, to meet her Savior Jesus Christ. She died at home of pancreatic cancer while under the compassionate care of St. Croix Hospice.

Sharon was born August 27, 1940, in Des Moines, IA to Ernest and Vera Bailey. She married Ron Thompson on May 20, 1960, at Saylorville Baptist Church in Des Moines. Together they raised four children through their 63 years of marriage.

They made their home in the Ankeny area for all but three years. Sharon was a bookkeeper for Woltz Studio in Des Moines, later a caregiver of children in her home when her children were in school and was employed for 22 years at Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny.

Sharon loved the Lord Jesus, her husband, four children, 16 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren, many extended family members, her church family of Community Baptist where she was a charter member, and her many friends. Sharon and Ron enjoyed gospel music which included attending concerts in the middlewest, as well as gospel-themed cruises. She prayed often for her grandkids and great-grandkids, attended ballgames, concerts, and a variety of other events, immensely enjoying all the times she had with them. Over the years she welcomed many into her home; people who needed a place to live on a temporary basis. She had a humorous side, loved to pull pranks on many people (can’t tell you what they were), but hated coffee, even the smell of it.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Ron; her children, Doug (Cindy) Thompson of Perry, Ernie Thompson of Des Moines, Lisa (Kurt) Leland of Huxley, and Matthew Thompson of Des Moines; 16 grandchildren: Taylor (Cody) Huber, Grant (Sarah) Thompson, Tyler, Madison and McKinley Thompson, Thomas (Riley) Thompson, Luke (Sarah) Thompson, Wesley and Samuel Thompson, Devin (Sierra) Leland, Jenna (Jesse) Bonde, Jayden and Tate Leland, Ben (Vanessa) Thompson, and Ashlan (Branden) Roemer; 10 great-grandchildren: Paisley & Clay Huber, Lily Thompson, Jackson, Nathan and Julia Thompson, Navy Leland, Brooklyn Bonde, Kinsley Thompson, and Jax Roemer; sister, Sheryl Richards of Yuma, AZ; and her brothers, Kenneth Bailey of Carlisle and Todd Bailey of Deary, ID.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Vera Bailey; brother, Glenn Bailey, and granddaughter, Brooke Leland.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Baptist Church.
