Today we mourn the loss of Shirley McComb, a loving mother and grandmother. Shirley passed away peacefully on March 3, 2023, at the age of 75, after a very short illness and battle with cancer.

Shirley was a devout woman of Christianity who found great joy in her faith and her family. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Joel, and a loving mother to her daughter and son, Juli and Eric, and son-in law, Curt. She delighted in her three grandsons, Ethan, Carter, and Lance Accola, who she lived for in her final years. She also is survived by her sisters, Marylou Lancaster and Linda Meyer.

Shirley worked for over 30 years as a medical records coder at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs Iowa. She was always up for a good time with friends and family. She was a talented cook and loved cooking huge meals for her family. She loved attending football games in Lincoln. Go Huskers! She was also a life-long Green Bay Packers fan and loved NFL Sundays.

She was an avid member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Ankeny where she met many new friends in retirement. Her passion for life was matched only by her generosity, and she was always willing to help out a friend in need. Shirley will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those who knew her. Her memory will live in our hearts forever.

A private service will be held at Memorial Services of Iowa in Ankeny, Iowa, with burial taking place at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
