Stanley Wayne Gatrost, age 86, passed away peacefully at home on November 26, 2016. Services will be held at Memorial Service of Iowa, 4208 North Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Friday, December 2, 2016. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, December 3, 2016.

Stanley was born July 30, 1930 in Persia, Iowa, the son of Claude and Mildred (McClannahan) Gatrost. Stanley graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1948. He married the love of his life, Joyce (Marquardt) on May 11, 1951 and they were blessed with 3 daughters, Sara Jo, Peggy and Barbara and 2 sons, Stanley, Jr. (Chip) and Keith.

He worked for Omaha Standard in Council Bluffs, Iowa for many years and in January 1967 became Manager of Des Moines Truck Equipment. He moved his family to Ankeny, Iowa in July 1967.

Stanley was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Des Moines. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, mushroom hunting, teaching Sunday school and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed. Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Peggy Foster (Leon) of Des Moines, and Barbara Gatrost (John Kinsey) of Ankeny; sons, Chip Gatrost (Deb) of Ankeny and Keith Gatrost (Cindy) of Center Point, 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Sisters-in-law, Joan Gatrost and Caroline Gatrost; brothers-in-law Hank Marquardt (Betty), Kenny Marquardt (Sandy) and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Joyce of 46 years; Daughter, Sara Jo, his parents and all his brothers and sisters.

The family would like to express its gratitude to Suncrest Hospice for the care they gave our dad during his illness. Their support through this difficult time was so very much appreciated.
