Stephen Edward Loy, born April 15, 1948 to LeRoy Charles Loy and Betty Jean (Heller) Loy, passed peacefully into his next adventure on June 28, 2022 at the age of 74.

A Celebration of Life reception will be held at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd) on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a time of sharing at 6:00 p.m.

After graduating from Valley Falls High School in Valley Falls, KS in 1966, Steve received a BS in Animal Science from Kansas State University. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Vogelsberg on August 8, 1970 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina, KS.

Steve had been a life-long cattleman/cowboy having worked in Kansas, Oregon, Nebraska, Virginia, and Minnesota. For the last 35 years of his working career he was employed at Greig & Co in Estherville, Iowa.

One of his many joys was playing sports and coaching basketball. Coach Loy especially enjoyed coaching girls basketball and was thrilled when his girls got runner-up at the Iowa Girls Basketball State Tournament in 1999.

Steve “Papa” loved being with his family, watching them participate in all of their activities, and lovingly tolerated his wife’s travel addiction.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara (Loy) Hefty; and nephew, Jeff Loy.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn, of Polk City, Iowa; his children, Shawna (Tom) Dumbaugh of Maxwell, Iowa, Riann (Ben) Hansen of Exira, Iowa, and Shane (Nicole) Loy of Wichita, Kansas; and his grandchildren, Cale and Nate Dumbaugh, Kate, Alex, and Jack Hansen, and Ava, Ayden, and Grayson Loy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Steve Loy Memorial Fund. Funds will be distributed to Des Moines University for medical studies or to the Brenton Arboretum.
