Timothy Brudtkuhl

November 3, 1958 - October 21, 2020

Timothy Ledru Brudtkuhl, 61, went to be with his Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, October 21, 2020.

Visitation will be Monday, October 26, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home, 4208 North Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Faith Baptist Church, 401 2nd Street, Cambridge, Iowa.

Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery near Alleman, Iowa.

Tim was born in Muscatine, Iowa to Herb and LaVaughn (Watson) Brudtkuhl on November 3, 1958. At the age of 10, his family moved to Alleman, Iowa where he graduated from North Polk High School in 1977.

After high school, he attended Faith Baptist Bible College. For his application he wrote:

“In 1964 there were special meetings at my church in Muscatine, Ia. Right now I can’t remember the speakers name, but I know he was a chalk artist. He had an invitation after the message and I responded. I was led to a side room and there, with the help of my father, accepted Jesus as my personal savior. The church was Walnut St. Baptist Church.”

He graduated from college in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in youth and music. Tim served at Calvary Baptist Church in Bremerton, Washington from 1982 to 1985. He then returned to Faith Baptist Theological Seminary to pursue a master’s degree in pastoral studies, where he met his wife Rochell (Shelli) Richards. Upon graduation, Tim and Shelli were married on May 16, 1987 in Altoona, Iowa and lived in Cambridge, Iowa.

Tim played basketball in junior high, but he was encouraged to switch to choir in high school. His involvement in choir led him to join the Faith Baptist Chorale tour in Europe. While in Germany, he marveled at the cathedrals but was burdened by the spiritual condition of the people. He prayed that God might send someone to preach the Gospel in Germany, but God answered his prayer by sending him.

Tim and Shelli moved to Germany in 1990 where they served the Lord as missionaries with Baptist Mid-Missions for 25 years. God greatly used his experience in youth ministry to reach the young people for Christ. Tim is still affectionally remembered in Bavaria as “Onkel Tim” who woke them up at youth camp every morning with the sound of the trumpet. In 1995, they moved to Berlin to start a church, the Freie Baptisten Gemeinde. Although his love for music introduced Tim to Germany, God used his interest in sports to help reach the community of Berlin, Karow.

For his volunteer work he was interviewed by newspapers, received a citizen award from the mayor, and became recognized as a spiritual leader in the community. He started a sports club, which introduced him to many young families and provided opportunities for youth ministry. He was often recognized around town as the bike riding basketball pastor. Even with his declining mental health his heart was still on the mission field.

He is survived by his wife, Shelli and three sons, Aaron Timothy, Daniel Richard and David Sterling. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and LaVaughn.
