Anthony “Tony” Steven Whitaker, age 45, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on April 2, 2022.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 8, 2022, at Lutheran Church of Hope Ankeny (520 NW 36th St.) with burial following at Berwick Cemetery.

Tony was born on January 19, 1977, to Steven and Nancy (Culmer) Whitaker in Des Moines, Iowa. He was raised in Ankeny and graduated from Ankeny High School in 1996. He went on to graduate with a Business Degree from the University of Iowa in 2001.

Tony loved track, football and fishing at his Grandpa`s pond.  Tony was part of a 4×4 relay team that held a record at the Drake Relays for 25 years.  He was an avid Hawkeye Fan. He loved to travel to sporting events, concerts, fishing trips, a Super Bowl, the London Olympics and saw the Cubs win the World Series.

Tony was Vice President at Municipal Supply where he worked for 21 years. He had the pleasure of working side by side with his grandfather, dad and brother.

He is survived by his parents; brother, Timothy and girlfriend, Leah; aunts and uncles, Sheryl (Steve) Shaw of Oskaloosa, Sue (Phil) Grove of Van Meter, Dan (Karen) Culmer of Alberta Canada, and Donna Culmer; and many cousins, Kristin, Jeff, Kara, Katrina, Audrey, Breanna, Jed, Corissa, Collin, Jessica and Nathan. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Marvin and Betty Whitaker, and Clyde and Ione Culmer; and uncle, Stephen Culmer.

Memorials may be directed to the Food Bank of Iowa.
