William (Bill) Franklin Magnani, 93, of Ankeny died on February 3, 2023.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (510 E. 1st St., Ankeny, IA). A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 10, also at the church with burial to follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens. Bill was born on December 9, 1929, in Zookspur, Iowa to Joe and Nettie (Lawson) Magnani.

He married Sarah Brugioni on October 14, 1950, and they made their home in Ankeny where they raised their six children.

Bill served in the US Army during the Korean War. He also worked for over 40 years at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company.

He was a charter member of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, a charter member and past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 5038, a charter member of Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly 3265, a member of American Legion Post 42, a member of VFW Post 9662, and a 75-year member and past president of Vittoria Italiana Lodge.

Bill enjoyed fishing, growing vegetables, caring for his rose bushes, taking care of his yard, going on trips to Arizona, doing puzzles, and later in life making cookies and sharing them with others. He was also well known for his homemade sausage and salsa.

Bill is survived by his children, Kathy (Bob) Lickteig, Jeff (Kim) Magnani, Chris (Roger) Sledge, Tom (Rodney) Maxfield, and Susan (Jason) Battani; 11 grandchildren, Melissa (Brad) Criswell, Amy (Ryan) Wickum, Justin Magnani, Jamie (Brandon) DuBois, Jill (Mark) Lomp, Dalton Magnani, Aaron (Jorden) Sledge, Casey (Jo) Sledge, Jessica (Will) Arthur, Emily Battani, and Kyle Battani; 14 great-grandchildren, Joel (Erin) Criswell, Robbie Criswell, Claire Wickum, Alex Wickum, Abigail DuBois, Cyril Lomp, Grace Lomp, Pete Lomp, Bayler Magnani, Brooks Magnani, Madilyn Sledge, Olivia Sledge, Luca Sledge, and Kynlee Sledge; 4 great-great grandchildren, Dani Wilson, Iris Wilson, Ezra Meyrat, and Charlie Criswell; 1 sister, Jo Ann Eppert; 2 brothers, Kenny and Terry; sisters-in-law, Louise (Bob) Johnson, Duck Magnani, and Carolyn Magnani.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a son, Brian Magnani, 9 sisters, and 4 brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Little Learners or to St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic School.
