William “Bill” Jay Beverly, 68, passed away on March 4, 2023, after a long illness.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd).

Bill was born October 12, 1954 in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Urbandale High School and graduated in 1972. He continued his education at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, and later earned a Master’s degree from Drake University.

On July 21, 1978, Bill was united in marriage to Ann O’Hern in Barnum, Iowa. The couple resided in Ankeny. Bill taught and coached at Northwest Webster School in Barnum, and Kreft Elementary School in Council Bluffs. In 1980, he left the education field and worked as a Recreation Supervisor in charge of athletics for the City of Des Moines until retiring in May of 2011.

Bill enjoyed his family time and the new love of his life, granddaughter Brinlee. They had a very special connection. One could always find Bill watching any sports event on TV, and he was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Yankees, and Los Angeles Lakers.

Bill is survived by his wife, Ann; children, Amy of Ankeny, and Billy (Ashley) of Newton; granddaughter, Brinlee; brother, Brian (Sheri) of Grimes; sisters-in-law, Maureen (Mike) Fitzgerald of Fort Dodge, and Rita Berkemann of Johnston; brothers-in-law, Mick (Sheila) O’Hern of Clare, Ron (Lea) O’Hern of Sioux City, Tom (Cheryl) O’Hern of Barnum, Terry (Becky) O’Hern of Johnston, and Dan (Diane) O’Hern of Eagle Grove; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Betty (Woods) and William J. Beverly, Jr.; and mother-in-law, Helen O’Hern.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
