Wilma Barbara Graber Roth Leichty, 80, died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Sunny View Care Center, Ankeny, Iowa. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at the Wayland Mennonite Church, 104 West Second Street, Wayland, Iowa. The family will greet friends at 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. A light meal will be served at the church after the service.
Wilma was born at home in Washington County, Iowa on November 7, 1937, to Elmer and Marie (Zieglowsky) Graber. She attended Wayland High School, Wayland, Iowa. She married Edward Roth on September 11, 1955. They farmed and raised turkeys near Wayland. They were the parents of three children, Carmine, Rhonda and Steve. Ed and Wilma were married for 17 years until his death on September 22, 1972. On July 19, 1974, Wilma married Dallas Leichty in Wayland. Wilma assisted with Dallas’ tiling and construction company and farming operation. Dallas and Wilma were married for over 24 years until his death on April 19, 1999.
When her children were young, Wilma was a homemaker, and later worked for many years as a bank teller in Mt. Pleasant. She was a wonderful hostess and talented seamstress. She loved making porcelain dolls and sewing clothes for them. She enjoyed gardening and crafts of all kinds. She was active in the Wayland Mennonite Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and youth leader, among other roles. Most of all, she treasured time with her children and grandchildren.
Wilma is survived by her children, Carmine (Steve) Boal, Rhonda (Scott) Taylor, and Steve (Pam) Roth; grandchildren, Rob (Laura) Boal, Amy (Thad) Wilson, Beth (Blake) Strobel, Erin (Chris) Lueth, Michael (Dani) Boal, Lauren Taylor, Michael Taylor, Jared Roth, Jakob Roth; great-grandchildren, Hazen Wilson and Sloane Strobel; sisters, Ruth Neff and Dorothy (David) Roth; step-siblings, JoAnn (Fred) Roth, Danny (Margaret) Stauffer and Jerry (Elaine) Stauffer. Other family includes sisters-in-law, Dianne Roth, Elaine (Jim) Canby; brothers-in-law, Al Early, Irvin (Lucy) Leichty, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ed Roth and Dallas Leichty; grandson, Nicholas Taylor; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Boese and Donna Early; and brothers-in-law, Harold Boese, James Roth and Elmer Neff.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Hawkeye Care Center in Dubuque and Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny for the love and compassionate care they provided to Wilma over many years.
