Alec R. Steffes

November 13, 1990 - March 28, 2022

Alec Ryan Steffes’ journey of life came to an end unexpectedly at the age of 31, at his home in Des Moines on March 28, 2022. Alec was born on November 13,1990, in Carroll, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Lutheran Church of Hope Ankeny Campus (520 NW 36th St.). A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2022, also at the church.

Survivors include his son, Isaiah Steffes; parents, Kent Steffes and Tammi and Mike Moller; sisters, Brittany Steffes and Tyler (Joseph) Lane; nieces and nephews, Elsa Steffes, Joseph, Remy and Elowen Lane, and Eleanor Schubert; grandparents, Colleen Steffes, Joy Savoie, Jim and Janet Genter, and Caryle Moller.  Special family members include Sarah Hume, Kelsi Spurgeon, Kirby and Korey Marsh and his beloved dog Sheiba.

Alec loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed traveling. He found joy working with his hands, reading and listening to podcasts, Alec’s greatest recent accomplishment was successfully graduating from drug treatment and moving into his own home.  Alec’s final social media post reads “Love my home! Love my dogs! Love my life!” His friends and family enjoyed his happiness, silliness and optimism during his final sober months.  He loved and was loved fiercely throughout his struggles with addiction.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alec’s name to Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
