Betty June Dodge

October 30, 1923 - March 4, 2018

Betty June Dodge stepped into Eternal Glory on Sunday March 4, 2018 with her daughter by her side. She is at peace in the presence of Jesus and joins her beautiful daughter, Candace, who completed her earthly journey just two weeks ago.
June was born in Hobart Indiana. She was the fourth of seven children born to Tony and Tillie (Schmidt) Springman. She had lots of wonderful memories of her childhood which she frequently shared.
She was married in 1941 to Thomas F. Dodge II. Together they had five children, Tom, Don, Candace, Ken, and Bettye. In 1956 they moved to the Des Moines area where they saw each of their children grow, graduate, and marry.
One of her favorite pastimes was traveling all over Minnesota fishing in the many lakes. The stories she would tell of her fishing days would pale in comparison to none other. They soon bought a place and would retreat on weekends to fish largemouth bass, bullheads, northern, walleyes and crappies.
Later, retiring to Arkansas, they spent wonderful days fishing in the lakes of the Ozark’s. A year after being in Arkansas, her husband died but she had developed relationships with so many people, (mom never knew a stranger) that she decided to stay and lived there another 30 some years before returning to the Ankeny area.
She attended Bible Study Fellowship with her daughter and really grew in her walk with the Lord. Early, every morning she would watch the Shepherds Chapel with Arnold Murray, Saturday evenings she watched Classic Gospel and Lawrence Welk, and every Sunday you would find her watching Dr. Charles Stanley. She often would share of her love of God to anyone willing to listen. She had many wonderful friends at AHEPA II apartments. She loved the potlucks and get togethers. She always was eager for everyone to be included and have a good time. When she was 92 she began making all kinds of creative jewelry. She really looked forward to the evening phone calls from her son Don in Texas.
She is survived by her son Don (Christine) of Houston Texas and daughter Bettye (Steve) Banning of Ankeny, Iowa; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and
2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Gerry Paul and Dorothy Smith of Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tom, sons Tom, Ken, daughter Candace Lea Hall, and son-in-law Gene Hall, siblings Ralph, Ruth, Tony, and Robin.
The family asks that no money or flowers be sent but memorial contributions can be made to the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery, Van Meter, Iowa or Taylor House Hospice, 3401 E. Douglas, Des Moines, Iowa 50317 in her honor.
