Cletus Edmund Chicoine, 82, of Ankeny, passed away June 8, 2017 at his home of Lung Cancer.
A Funeral Mass will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church. A visitation will be held 5 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 12th, also at the Church.
Cletus was born December 9, 1934 to Edmund and Luella Limoges Chicoine at Elk Point, South Dakota. He received his education at a country school, and went on to serve his country with the US Army from 1957 to 1958. He was stationed in Germany. He worked in different construction jobs and at Armour Meat Packing in Sioux City, Iowa.
Cletus was united in marriage to Marilyn Rose Bormann, May 7, 1960 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph of Bode, Iowa.
In 1963 the couple moved from Sioux City, Iowa to a farm near West Bend, Iowa. They were actively engaged in grain and livestock farming. Cletus raised many hogs from farrow to finish. On the GI Bill, Cletus graduated from Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, Iowa with an associate’s degree in agriculture.
Cletus and Marilyn were active members of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in West Bend. Cletus was a 52 year member of the Knights of Columbus. His greatest joys in life were faith, family, and friends. They moved from West Bend, Iowa to Ankeny Iowa in 2008.
He loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed woodworking, making many wood articles and toys. He loved to garden in later years, and played pool and card games.
Cletus is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn; 7 children, Paul (Barb) of Johnston, Daryl (Peggy) of Ankeny, Michele (Don) Riesenberg of West Bend, IA, Alan of Des Moines, Tim of Joplin, MO, Jeff (Heather) of Polk City, and Chad of Ankeny; 23 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren; brothers Mark (Barbara), Julian (Mary), and sisters, Monica Olson and Joan Wick.
He is preceded in death by his son Daniel, who died at 2 months of SIDS; his parents, and a sister Madonna Blomberg.
