Denise Rae Jutting, 61, of Ames passed away April 30, 2015 at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines.
Denise was born October 30, 1953 in Iowa City, Iowa to Melvin and Roberta (Inman) Tegner.
She graduated from Charles City High School in 1971, and was an Iowa State University Graduate in 1978. In 1973 she was married to Jeffrey Jutting, and together they had 2 children, Christopher and Kellie.
Shortly after graduating from Iowa State University, Denise worked as a microbiologist for the U.S.D.A. until 1991. From 1994 until 2004, Denise kept busy with multiple part time jobs including working in the kitchens of the Elks Lodge and Northcrest Retirement Community doing what she loved most, cooking. During that time, she also ran her own catering business.
In addition to cooking, Denise enjoyed time outdoors (especially near water), spending time with her family and multiple crafts including jewelry making, cross stitch sewing and knitting.
Denise is survived by her daughter, Kellie (Brian) Schall of Ankeny, a grandson Kaleb Schall, a brother, Jim (Rhonda) Tegner of Flowermound, TX, and nieces Lacey Harring and Lesli Tegner.
She was preceded in death by her son Christopher, and her parents.
Visitation with the family will be at the Ankeny Memorial Gardens from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 23, with a memorial service directly following at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Boone County Transportation Services or the American Diabetes Association.
