Mary and I are out of state so unable to attend Ollie's services. Our sincerest sympathy to all of your family . I had the privilege and honor of serving in Mayor Weigel's administration as a young man and learned through his patient , objective , yet strong leadership as he guided Ankeny through many challenges , laying the foundation for unprecedented growth . Ollie was a strong leader , great mentor and most importantly , a very kind and gentle person. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of your family .

Larry and family. I’m so sorry for your sad loss. Ollie was one of my favorite people. From the time I was a little kid and through the years, he has always been a person I really enjoyed. He was fun to talk with, kind, had a friendly smile and a good sense of humor. I had many laughs with him, sat with him at church, and watched him walk around our neighborhood! He will be missed!

Larry, Alan & I send our sincere sympathy to all of your family. Ollie was tirelessly devoted & committed to our hometown & guided the growth & progress, which was important in the 50s through the 90s. But more importantly, he exemplified & demonstrated fine character, which his 'greatest generation' personified so often. Our country would be great again, if our communities had more 'Ollies' living in them. I hope his grandchildren & all that knew him will aspire to carry the light of his torch in their lives. A strong commitment to God, family, country & community made our country strong. Not hobbies, diversions, interests & amusements that preoccupy many today. May God give you comfort & peace & strength in the days ahead as you adjust & mourn & grieve.

Ollie was a pillar for Ankeny in many ways for many years. He was a fine dentist and friend and an outstanding mayor who demonstrated that you didn’t need to be political to be a politician. When I was the young struggling publisher of the local paper, I always knew I could call on him for some guidance. His gentle influence was important for guiding Ankeny for a generation. I was proud to call him friend. Ron Sampson
