Gary Paul Bagby, 74, of Waukee, passed away on November 15, 2021, at his home in Waukee. A Celebration of Life will be planned in the future.

Gary was born on June 12, 1947 in Des Moines. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and Drake University, earning his Masters of Science in Mathematics. He was a mathematics teacher at Lincoln High School for 32 years, as well as the Department Chair of the Math Department for 25 years. He introduced microcomputers to the Des Moines Public Schools in 1979 with an Apple II. He ran an Apple Computer Club (Glitch Kickers) for 20 years, and gave many presentations on Mathematics and Computers at various ICTM, NCTM and MECC meetings. He enjoyed taking his students to math competitions, fishing in the summers, drag racing his ‘69 Dodge Charger aka “blowing the carbs out”, fireworks, computers, seeing his grandkids, watching science fiction and action movies, pro wrestling, and spending time with Barb.

He was married to Barbara Bagby for 52 years. He is survived by his children, Michael (Julie) Bagby, Thomas (Michelle) Bagby, and Jennifer (Andrew) Taylor; grandchildren, Lauren, Olivia, Abigail and Zachary; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; and parents, Louis and Josephine.

One of Gary’s favorite quotes was, “Life is a trip with many valleys and peaks. Enjoy the peaks, don’t get stuck in the valleys, and enjoy life as often as possible.”
