Jack Wheatly

March 26, 1930 - October 14, 2021

Jack Wheatly passed away Oct. 14, 2021. He was born March 26, 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa.  He grew up on the east side of Des Moines and graduated from East High School. He served two years in the army. After his discharge he returned to Des Moines where he married Ruby Wheatly. 

He worked iron and ornamental steel work out of Local 67 for over 40 years. After retiring from iron work he continued to be active in Ankeny High School athletics and Drake University athletics. 

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruby; his daughter, Michelle; his son, Neil; two sisters, Madeline Morey and Kathleen Lutz; two granddaughters and two grandsons, and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Tom, his sisters, Charlotte Cox and Deanna Peterson and his son, Charlie.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be sent to The Ankeny Booster club or Scholarship Fund. There will be a Celebration of Life service next spring or summer.
