I lived next door to Johns mother growing up and became friends with his youngest daughter, Diane. Diane and I once got in a childish argument about which one of our dads was the silliest. They are both in heaven now, no doubt trying to out-joke one another! Blessings to all of you in his family.

Truly Swede was one of the world's good guys. I am proud to have been his friend. I will miss him.

"Swede" we're gonna miss you. Always a smile in the room when Swede was there. A man truly blessed with the spirit of sharing. If only more of us could be the same.
Remember the good times, celebrate his achievements, there are so many of both.
I can't be with you for the service but John will always be in my heart.

Swede will be greatly missed. He was such a good man. Always a smile on his face with friendly words to share. I know my dad will miss their visits and chats. Bless you all.

Earlier in life I got into some trouble and was in the Polk County Jail for an extended period of time. By extended, I mean nine (9) months. When Swede first saw me there we both had a cry and from then on Swede would come down every week and pray with me, get me off my floor and out of the cell for an hour or so. It was such a pleasant, caring, thoughtful, selfless thing to do for all the people in Polk County Jail. He never once judged me, never once spoke about it in front of our extended family unless I would bring it up, and my grandmother Bessie Marie Lundstrom said that he was one of the best men she had ever had the pleasure of being an aunt to. Swede holds a special place in my heart for the time he took every week to check in on me in my time of desperate need. I am positive his prayers are what got me through that ruff time in my life. Pretty sure it also saved me from going to prison and I just can't express how thankful I will always be to this man. Much love and respect, you will be sadly missed.

Karla,

I was so sorry to learn of your dad's passing. He was a fixture in the real estate business in Ankeny. He and my dad worked closely together on many of Ankeny's local issues back in the late 70's and early 80's. I hope they are meeting again in Heaven. My heartfelt sympathies to you and your family.
