Kathleen Dolores Vanderpool, 88 years young, from Des Moines, Iowa went home to be with the Lord October 12, 2021.

Dolores was born at home on the family farm in Berwick, Iowa November 12, 1932, to Elmer and Blanche Thornton and lived in Des Moines through her teenage years and graduated from North High School.

She married Jerry Lee Parks, Sr., November 3, 1951, at the Berwick Congregational Church. They had an amazing life in the Army living in many places including Michigan, Virginia, Maryland, Colorado, California, Texas, and beautiful Hawaii and were blessed with 6 children. They retired from the service in Aurora, Colorado and then moved to Kremmling, Colorado. They were married 30 years until Jerry’s passing in 1981.

Dolores married Clate Vanderpool February 7, 1998, and resided in Saylorville, Iowa. They traveled to many places, and she enjoyed being part of Clate’s large family and grandchildren for the past 23 years.

Dolores was very involved at Capitol City Baptist Church. She served in AWANA and loved to fellowship with her Bible Study class and the senior adults and loved serving the Lord there. She was also part of Christian Women’s Club and Berwick Women’s Club. She loved music and missions.

Survivors include her husband, Clate Vanderpool; her six children, Julia Burk, Jerry (Becky) Parks, Ron Parks, Linda (Rick) Paulus, Lori (David) Goebel, Renee (Steve) Morrow, 14 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Jerry, and her 4 siblings through the years.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00am (CT), Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home, 4208 N Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny, IA 50023.  A visitation will be held at 10:00am, 1 hour prior to the service.

Her burial will take place 11:00am, November 12, 2021, at staging area A of Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
