She was born on May 6, 1923 in Willisville, Illinois, the daughter to Anna Holmes.

Marie grew up on a farm in Southern Illinois. When she was a teenager, she moved to Highwood, Illinois where she later met her husband, Fernando “Dusty” Yori, After getting married, they moved to Ankeny, Iowa to be close to Dusty’s family. Marie was known for her quick wit and sassiness. She enjoyed crafting which included sewing, crocheting, quilting, ceramics, and gardening. She was also an avid cook and would spend hours preparing lavish Italian meals for the extended family. Marie will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who all affectionately called her either “Gram” or “GG”, and all of the extended family and friends who knew her.
