Matthew Bachman, age 31, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 7, 2018.

He was a machinist at John Deere in Ankeny, Iowa in Department 39, cotton picker spindle manufacturing.

Matt attended Ankeny Community Schools from 4th grade until graduation in 2005. In 2004, Matt traveled to Washington, DC where the Board of Directors of the United States Institute of Peace awarded him first place for Iowa in the 2004 National Peace Essay Contest.

Matt attended The University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and Des Moines Area Community College. At DMACC, he earned an Associate in General Studies, Associate in Applied Science in Information Technology/Network Administration, and Certificate of Specialization in Digital Forensic Investigation. He also had certification as an AccessData Certified Examiner and was recognized as a CompTIA Security+ Certified Professional.

He was self motivated to research any topic he found interesting which he studied in depth until another topic piqued his interest.
Matt was a deep thinker and proficient writer. He had many plans and goals and was looking for “his purpose.” He was a kind soul and loved his family and cat Eli.

Matt enjoyed weightlifting and training, computers and gaming, reading, listening to music genres from classical to rap, and going out to Big Creek observing eagles and animals.

Survivors are his parents Kurt and Deanne Bachman (Ankeny, Iowa); sisters Lori (Virginia), Stacy (North Carolina), and Bethany (Iowa); grandmother Rita (Iowa); and many aunts, uncles, nieces nephews and cousins.

I cannot imagine that our memories will fade. We see him all around.

Among all the languages of men and of angels, there is not a single word that will ease our sorrow. Fortunately, where words fail, heaven provides tears.

Our family chain is broken
And nothing seems the same
But as God calls us one by one
The chain will link again.

Be at peace “Big Guy.”
