Michael W. Moore

Michael W. Moore, 79, of Ames, passed away on May 24, 2023 at Israel Family Hospice House.

Michael was born on June 20, 1943, to Dorothy (Schumm) and Walter Moore in Muscatine, IA. His family relocated to Ames in 1960, where Michael graduated in the Ames High School class of 1961. After graduating, Michael became a car mechanic for the Allen Motor Company in Ames and later he was an auto body repair person.

Michael wed Linda Nelson in 1964. They had two sons, Michael and Kurt. The family moved to Boone in 1970 and later moved to Plano Texas, before returning back to Ames. Michael held various positions throughout his career, most notable were with the IA DOT, a small business owner, and finally with Firestone Tire from where he retired. He was a true car enthusiast having owned and restored many classic cars. His favorite car was a very fast 1958 Chevy Impala.  After retiring, he spent time going to car shows and watching NASCAR races, spent time with his family, and cared for several well-loved dogs over the years.

Michael was predeceased by his parents; and one sister, Anita Clayberg. He is survived by his wife, Linda; brother, Larry (Becca); sons, Michael (Kelly) and Kurt (Kari), all of Ames; and four grandchildren, Christopher, Kara, Makayla and Alison.

No public services are planned.
